Camp Track
Below the Castle the walking track follows the Camp Track — the original route along which access was gained to Larnach's Castle. During the three years that the castle was under construction, it was known as "The Camp", thus the track was called the Camp Track.
Amazing views of the harbour can be seen from the Camp Track. You could follow Camp Track all the way down to Portobello Road at Broad Bay, or you could veer off to the left where the walking track cuts across private land, through paddocks, and eventually joins up with McTaggart Street and on to Portobello Road at Company Bay.
Once back at sea level, the walk follows Portobello Road back in the direction towards Dunedin, past Company Bay to Macandrew Bay. The round trip takes about two–and–a–half hours at a leisurely pace, stopping here and there to enjoy the splendid views.
